Learning & Assessment <\/div><\/h2><\/div>

Codex and Code is designed as an integrated learning experience rather than a sequence of unrelated lectures. Online preparation, onsite teaching, manuscript sessions, digital workshops and independent work contribute to a total student workload of 75 hours and correspond to 3 ECTS credits.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Learning outcomes<\/h4><\/div>

After successfully completing the programme, participants will be able to: <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    \n
  • identify and describe the principal characteristics of Greek scripts and manuscript types from Late Antiquity to the modern period; <\/li>\n
  • differentiate major phases in the development of Greek writing and recognise their palaeographical and codicological features; <\/li>\n
  • explain the historical, material and technological conditions that shaped manuscript production; <\/li>\n
  • read, transcribe, describe and document Greek written material using traditional and digital approaches; <\/li>\n
  • compare scripts, writing materials and styles and formulate evidence-based observations concerning manuscript dating and provenance; <\/li>\n
  • use selected digital resources, databases and encoding standards, including TEI\/XML, in the investigation and documentation of manuscripts; <\/li>\n
  • understand the principles and research uses of HTR, metadata, interoperability, computational classification, digital dating and stemmatics; <\/li>\n
  • justify research choices and communicate scientifically grounded arguments in oral and written form; <\/li>\n
  • critically assess the opportunities and limitations of digital and AI-assisted methods in manuscript studies; <\/li>\n
  • work effectively in an international and interdisciplinary learning environment. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>

      Assessment: Learning portfolio<\/h4><\/div>

      Assessment is based on the completion of an individual learning portfolio. The portfolio will bring together a selection of exercises and materials produced during the online and onsite components of the BIP and will document the participant\u2019s engagement with both classical and digital approaches to Greek palaeography. <\/p>\n

      Detailed instructions concerning the contents, format and submission of the portfolio will be provided to registered participants. Successful completion of the portfolio, together with active participation in the scheduled academic activities, is required for the award of 3 ECTS credits. <\/p>\n<\/div>

      EDITORIAL \/ IMPLEMENTATION NOTE
      The source course outline allocates 10 hours to project work and 5 hours to portfolio work. These have been combined above as \u2018Portfolio \/ project work\u2019 because the confirmed assessment method is a portfolio.
